Communication Design

2012-2016

Below is a collection of some of my work from my Communication Design & Human Computer Interaction classes at Carnegie Mellon.

Book covers for deconstructivist architects

I designed a set of book covers for a series on architects during the deconstructivist era. My goal was to use kinetic typography to communicate the work of Zaha Hadid, Rem Koolhaas, and Bernard Tschumi in an effective and meaningful way. Each book was meant to have its own voice, while remaining cohesive in a 3-part system. View process work.

Museum exhibition concept & identity

I designed a concept, brand, and identity for a museum exhibition. The exhibition was to contain a collection of 100+ items which I had a personal connection with. I chose to use my grandmother's assortment of buttons from the 1950's.

I soon learned that I wanted to create appeal for the collection by giving it a more modern twist. As a result, I created an exhibition called Loose Buttons. The exhibit contrasts etiquette in the 50's with the social norms of today.

Processing.js

In the spring of 2014, I had the opportunity to learn Processing.js, an open source language for the creation of interactive visual sketches. In the course of a few months, I created some pieces which were short and sweet, like my interactive keyboard and 3D typography (most of which are still available on my Open Processing page. However, I also designed more extensive sketches, and explored different libraries. In my final project, I created an interactive spirograph visualization with beat detection capabilities.

Interactive Keyboard

A brief sketch which, with keyboard input, displays a randomly colored dot on the screen. Each dot appears in an area respective to that key on the keyboard. Scrolling turns the background white. Clicking changes the background to a random color.

3-dimensional Typography

Another quick sketch which allows a user to interact with rotating letters through keyboard input

Spirograph with Beat Detection

A spirograph which changes shape according to the mouse position, while pulsing to the beat of a song.
